Update on The Revolution

It looks like Dr. Paul's new book will debut at #7 on the New York Times bestseller list next week. Those numbers track last week's sales - BEFORE the book was officially released. It's still holding steady at #1 on Amazon.

Here's a message from the good doctor himself, announcing the release of the book today:

The Revolution: A Manifesto is #1 on Amazon!

Dr. Ron Paul's latest book, entitled "The Revolution: An Manifesto" was officially released today. Already, it is at #1 on Amazon.com lists of bestsellers and hot new releases. It is interesting to note that this occurred without the help of Oprah and her book club! Every American should read this, no matter where you think you fall on the political spectrum. Its message is timeless and applies to every American!

Dr. Paul attended a pre-release booksigning at Borders bookstore in NYC a few days ago, and it was reportedly the largest booksigning the store had ever seen! They sold out of all their copies before Dr. Paul even arrived at the store (after telling the campaign earlier to expect to sell around 50 copies).

This book is HUGE! Here are a couple of reviews:

by Scott Horton on LewRockwell.com

by Barry Goldwater, Jr (scroll down just a bit)

by Walt Thiessen on the nolanchart.com

by Thomas Woods on thenewliberty.com

Readers' reviews on Amazon.com - Currently has received nothing but 5-star ratings!

Pat Buchanan's Take on John McCain

In this article, Patrick J. Buchanan wonders whether the GOP base will sit at home in November because of lack of enthusiasm for their candidate. Remember, John McCain has only won 43% of the GOP vote so far, and that's including states where voting took place after Romney and/or Huckabee dropped out of the race. He lost 27% of the vote in Pennsylvania even though the media and the GOP had declared him the presumptive nominee (many times leaving out the word 'presumptive' altogether). A candidate who had dropped out and another who voters were convinced had dropped out should never have been able to capture more than a few votes between them. However, Huckabee got 11% and Ron Paul got 16%.

GOP conventions at this stage of the game are supposed to be about rallying around the party's nominee and getting ready to beat the Democrats in November. If John McCain and the GOP believe that he has the deal all sewn up, then why are they shutting down the Ron Paul supporters every step along the way? Why did they pack up and leave the Nevada state convention when they realized they'd be sending anywhere from 7 - 22 delegates to St. Paul who would rather vote for Ron Paul than John McCain. If he has the pledged delegates as reported in the media, what harm would this miniscule number of Ron Paul delegates do?

The answer is simple. They know that not all of the delegates he is claiming are truly pledged to vote for him. They know that primaries and caucuses are nothing more than glorified straw polls. The party rules state that the nominee is chosen by the delegates at the national convention. Each state party has rules on how their delegates must vote, but these rules can be changed at their state conventions. The GOP and John McCain know full well that anything can happen between now and September and that his nomination is anything but wrapped up. This is the only possible explanation for their behavior and their attacks on members of their own party to prevent Republicans who favor a different candidate from taking part in the nomination process.

An Inspiring Patriot's Story

Many have questioned my decision to work to get Ron Paul elected as president and to help spread his message of freedom. It's sometimes difficult to express the answer as to why I feel so strongly about it and how my thinking has completely changed. Here's a guy who taped his response, and I could never have said it any better:

All Hands on Deck!

July 12, 2008 will go down in history as the day when the sovereign people of this country were able to say with one voice, "We want our country back!"

Whether you call it the Freedom March, the Constitution March, the rEVOLution March, or any other name you can think of, this will be a defining moment in America. In response to the media's blackout on his campaign, Congressman Ron Paul called for a massive march on Washington in a video announcement to his supporters earlier this year. The event, however, is not being organized by the presidential campaign. It is being professionally organized by people with experience and a dedicated staff able to obtain the necessary permits, secure speakers and entertainment, deal with the logistics, security, travel and lodging arrangements, etc. While Dr. Paul is confirmed as the keynote speaker, this march is about so much more than one man.

Already, patriots have heard the call of, "All hands on deck!" and are making their travel plans. This can only succeed if our numbers are truly astounding. Every man, woman, and child (it is a family event) who does not want this country to continue to be ruled by a few elite bankers and corporations MUST respond to this call to action. I know people who are shutting the doors to their businesses, renting RV's and sharing the expense with others who can also share the driving. I know people who have scheduled vacation days & asked for overtime to save money for airfare and hotel. Meet-up groups are holding 'chip-ins' to help sponsor people who want to go, but need financial assistance. If you sincerely believe that America is headed down the wrong path and would like to see the restoration of our Constitution, our individual liberties, our property rights, our sovereignty, etc., please start making arrangements now to be in DC on July 12!

Here's a great video promo for the march. It gives just one reason to attend, but it's a BIG reason and one most Americans can agree on!

The Revolution's Current Battleground: Nevada

At the state GOP convention in Nevada today, the party leadership announced they were leaving and would reconvene later. Mitt Romney, who won the Nevada caucuses, was on hand to speak on behalf of John McCain who declined an invitation to speak. Ron Paul, who placed second and ahead of McCain, was also invited to speak. Romney reportedly kept a straight face as he spoke of McCain's ability to steer the American economy in the right direction. Paul received thunderous applause and numerous standing ovations throughout his speech.

When the delegates got down to business, a rules change was approved by a 2/3 majority, which did away with the nomination committee's pre-determined slate of nominees to the national GOP convention and opened nominations from the floor. This process resulted in the election of 9 of the 31 delegate positions before the chair announced that they were taking a recess. There was no motion made, no debate, and no vote. There was no determination of a specific time or place for the reconvened convention. The convention chairman and the committee chairs simply left the building. The party leadership is indicating they will reconvene in Las Vegas (450 miles from today's convention site in Reno). This is a blatant attempt to disenfranchise Ron Paul supporters, but I'm betting there will be even more than the 700 they had in Reno - talk about blowback!

Click here to read the first report on the Nevada GOP Convention from the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Here's a blog post from a delegate to the Nevada GOP Convention, which was written a few days before today's convention. This give you an idea of how the slate of nominees presented by the nominations committee was determined.

For other examples of state conventions where the GOP leadership has used unbelievable tactics against members of its own party, just google the conventions in Missouri and Louisiana. For a candidate who supposedly has no shot of winning anything, he sure does have them on the run!

A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Many Americans throw around the word 'democracy' when describing our form of government. Rule by simple majority sounds good, but it's a bit like asking two lions and a gazelle to vote on what's for dinner. A true democracy would result in mob rule and could not last. Our founders knew that the minority must be protected from the whims of the majority. What if the majority of Americans wanted to turn the state of Kansas into a national landfill? What about the rights of the people currently residing in that state?

Instead of creating a system of government where the majority rules without consideration of the rights of the minority, the statesmen who crafted our founding documents chose a republican form of government. It is similar to a democracy, but with strict limits placed on those serving as representatives of the sovereign people and with a division of power that was supposed to have maintained a system of checks and balances. Who was placed in charge of ensuring these mechanisms work properly? We, the people, were given the sovereignty over those serving as our representatives. Most of us, though, merely vote and assume our civic duty is complete.

As Benjamin Franklin was leaving Independence Hall after the Constitutional Convention of 1787, a woman asked him, "Well, doctor, what have we got - a republic or a monarchy?" Dr. Franklin replied, "A republic, if you can keep it." We have fallen asleep at the wheel, and if we don't wake up soon and regain control, we will surely crash. We must stay vigilant! Who are the sentries among us who are watching what the government is doing? Who is paying attention here? We have not lived up to our obligations as free people. This must change if we are to survive as free people. Take a look at the following video and decide for yourself if we, the people, are in charge anymore.

GOP Voters Aren't Falling in Line

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania held their primaries for the presidential race. Even though John McCain is the presumptive GOP nominee, more than 27% of the Republicans who cast their vote in Pennsylvania DID NOT vote for him! Ron Paul received nearly 130,000 votes, putting his total close to one million votes. That's one million votes for FREEDOM! Thank you, PA!

Here's what Ron Paul had to say about these results:

Calling all Freedom Lovers in Central Texas

If you live in Central Texas, you're in luck! G. Edward Griffin is coming to speak on the UT campus about "An Idea Whose Time Has Come" and will sign copies of his book, "The Creature from Jekyll Island" at Brave New Books afterwards. Details below:

How do we Fight for Freedom?

If you've been around the Ron Paul campaign or the freedom movement for any length of time, you've undoubtedly heard of the book The Creature from Jekyll Island : A Second Look at the Federal Reserve by G. Edward Griffin. Mr. Griffin has been involved in the freedom movement since he was first 'enlightened' or 'woken up' in the 1960's.

A few days ago, on a message board somewhere, I saw a post with a link to what the writer claimed to be an inspiring video. I clicked on it and saw that it was an hour & 23 minutes long and almost left the page. Thankfully, though, I noticed in the description that it was by G. Edward Griffin. That name rang a bell, so I watched it, albeit in 10 minute increments throughout the day.

For anyone who finds themselves overwhelmed by the enormity of the problems we face and is thinking that there is no hope for a solution, please watch this. If you're still not convinced we have a problem with eroding individual liberties, astronomical growth of government, a currency becoming more worthless by the day, a nation whose sovereignty is being sold piece by piece, etc., then please continue to do your own research until you are satisfied one way or the other.

Those who are unaware of the enemy we face, the tactics they use, their motives, their successes to date, and their vision of victory are understandably not active in the fight to right the ship. Those who are aware and choose to sit idly by and watch events unfold have no excuse for apathy. Mr. Griffin blames this apathy on the method used to spread the message, including his own method up until a few years ago. Too often, he says, the message is focused on all of the problems without offering truly workable solutions, and without a possible fix in sight most people simply give up. I myself am guilty of trying to get people to see the problems without offering a solution. But until I saw this video, I (like most) had no idea how to really go about helping our cause. This video offers real solutions and a brilliant plan for putting them into action. The only piece needed to complete the mission is people willing to do whatever needed to take our country back. If you're serious about trying to help restore America to a nation of free individuals enjoying life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness protected by a truly limited government, please watch this video!

How much does the media influence the electorate?

We're all familiar with polls. They're usually done with a sampling of a few hundred people up to a few thousand at the most. Most of us are aware of how easy it is to word a question in such a way as to elicit the particular response desired by the entity paying the pollster. Even live polling of focus groups are manipulated right in front of us, but many are fooled into believe these are more trustworthy than telephone polls reported as statistics, which can in and of themselves be manipulated to show a pre-determined response. I used to think that Frank Luntz was great at questioning focus groups and analyzing the results on FOX News. Then I came across a video of him explaining and proving how he can frame any question in such a way as to elicit a particular response. Then he'd ask the same question in a slightly different way and get the complete opposite response!

These focus groups usually have a few dozen people participating. The 'best' polls use more, but scientifically speaking, it is best to use as wide a sample as possible. It is also important to control as many factors as possible, keeping them constant so that differences can be attributed to only one cause. At least this should be the objective. Many people I know simply throw up their hands in disgust at the whole thing and believe that none of this polling or media reporting has any effect on the outcome of our elections.

Friends of mine have actually laughed when I've said anything about the media choosing our candidates for us. We are all free to make up our own minds about who we vote for, right? If a majority is won by a candidate in the election, it must mean that a fully informed electorate has voiced its opinion on its first choice, right? Are we fully informed about every single choice we have? Does everyone vote their first choice, or do some begin to believe that their first choice has no chance leading them to cast their precious vote for someone less desirable because they are 'in the lead'?

This video by a media insider has the answer to these questions.

Have they no Shame?

If you read my earlier post about my first experience attending a GOP county convention, you'll remember that I was satisfied overall with the way we were treated. My county has gone out of their way to welcome the fresh faces. Perhaps they're following the addage about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer; I don't really know at this point. They did not blatantly railroad us, though, and they let us be heard. If, according to Robert's Rules of Order (the rules that govern the conventions per state GOP rules), we called for a 'Point of Order' or a 'Point of Information', our County GOP Chairman recognized us and answered the question in accordance with the rules.

In Nueces County, Texas (and many other conventions across the country), the people attending their conventions because of their support for candidate Ron Paul and his message of limited government, humble foreign policy, sound money, and strict adherence to the US Constitution, were ignored, humiliated, and otherwise trampled upon. Rules of the conventions were aggregiously broken, and according to state party rules, those conventions and their outcomes SHOULD not be recognized.

The patriots in Nueces County knew the rules and played by them. They knew when the Chairman was breaking the rules, and they called 'Point of Order'. According to state party rules, delegates and alternates to the next highest convention are elected at the previous convention, and NO NAMES can be added after the fact. The only requirement to be eligible is that you voted in the party's primary that year. In Texas, you could have voted early or voted on primary day, March 4th. After the polls closed on March 4th, each precinct held their Precinct Conventions. You do not have to present at the convention to be nominated and then elected to serve as a delegate or alternate from your precinct to the next highest convention (either a county convention or senate district convention). You do, however, have to be nominated and elected AT THE CONVENTION. In our case, we brought a list of known RP supporters to our precinct convention and nominated them. If it turned out they didn't actually make it out to vote in the primary, they were refused by us - or if we didn't catch it, they were refused by the Credentials Committee. Once we voted on our slate of delegates and alternates to our county convention, it was understood by all that no names could be added.

In Nueces County, the Credentials Committee broke every rule in the book! Apparently, some good ole party faithful failed to get themselves elected at their precinct conventions, but showed up at the county convention wanting to be delegates anyway. The Credentials Committee read their report during the convention proceedings and listed dozens of names of delegates they had added and asked for a vote to approve them. They stated that, since they all voted in the primary, they were eligible. Unless they were nominated and elected at their precinct convention, they were definitely NOT eligible under the party rules!

Listen to the audio recording of this portion of their convention at the end of this post. You can hear repeated calls for 'Point of Order' and 'Point of Information'. The Chairman MUST recognize these and address them without a 'second' and without discussion or a vote. These people were trying to stop the breaking of the rules, but were ignored entirely. They then did the only thing they could do: They left and held their own convention outside, ran it according to the rules, and turned in the appropriate paperwork to the Texas GOP. I will watch what happens next and post an update here on Naked Liberty. At the state convention in Houston in June, I'll find the Nueces County delegation and find out which set of delegates actually gets seated. If it is the slate of delegates put forth by the rules-breaking convention, our elections process is under attack even more than I imagined!

Who are the Rothschilds?

Most people have heard of this family. Perhaps you know them as wealthy financiers or owners of wineries and fine art. Perhaps you've heard their name mentioned in connection to various 'conspiracy theories' over the years. If you search the web, you'll find lots of websites containing information on them, including a few of their own websites.

There is an author named Andrew Hitchcock who has done extensive research and who has written "The History of the House of Rothschild". It is in the form of a time line that stretches from 1743 up to 2005. This is the most complete work I've seen yet and was well worth the two hours or so it took me to read it. You can also choose to view it as a Power Point slideshow if you prefer.

If you think you were educated by an American public school system that taught you everything you need to know about history, think again! If you don't know the details contained in this chronicle, there has been much left out of your education and mine. If your first reaction is to doubt the material, please search for other sources to confirm or deny the assertions made. I have already found many other sources that corroborate part or all of this story. Revisionist history is not a theory, but a fact. Please educate yourself - the media won't do it for you due to reasons that will become crystal clear if you read this and start your own quest for the truth.

The notion that the truth will set you free is indeed a correct statement. We cannot be truly free and enjoy our individual liberties as promised unless we arm ourselves with the truth, then work together to spread it to everyone we know. Once the truth is known by enough people, the house of cards will come crashing down and we will experience true freedom for the first time in our lives.

Again, I have not researched all of the contents of the linked article and I must assume that it is not 100% correct, just as no work produced by man. Nor can I say that I agree completely with the author on all points. However, if any of it is true, it deserves further research followed by action to take back the country our ancestors secured for us.

A Film Every American Should Watch

My apologies for not posting in a while. I was very busy getting my income taxes filed! I've also been doing lots of research and have found that I've been afflicted with information overload. It is difficult sometimes to start writing because there is simply so much to say - where to begin?

There is so much great information available, but I have finally made a decision on what to include next. The following video is a documentary by Aaron Russo. Please click his name to find out more about him. He recently passed away (24 Aug 07), and the inscription on his headstone reads "Freedom Fighter". He has thankfully left us his latest film, "America: From Freedom to Fascism".

NOTE: This clip is the first of 11 parts as posted on YouTube. You can click the play button and watch the clip right here or you can click on the video itself, which will take you to youtube.com where you can click a link at the bottom of each segment to go to the next. Each is 10 - 15 minutes in length. The entire movie runs nearly two hours and can be watched for free here.

New World Order - Real or Imagined?

Here's another excellent article I just have to share! Whatever your political leanings, this should be required reading for all Americans. This is especially for those of you who think I've gone off the deep end and joined the 'conspiracy theorist' crowd. Please take 20 minutes or so to read this! We must make an effort to educate ourselves - this is NOT something that will be spoonfed to us as we watch reality TV or even so-called 'news' programs. We have been played, people! Wake up and do something about it!

And here's a short video clip to underscore the fact this has been under all our noses all along:

Aha!

I came across an article today, and after reading it, I had a definite 'Aha!' moment. It is such a clear, concise synopsis of more than 100 years of American history that I am posting it in its entirety here on Naked Liberty. It was written in 1995 and quotes more than 20 sources. I'm sure after reading it, you will be able to find many parallels to events that have unfolded in the last 13 years. Pay special attention to the paragraphs regarding elections and ask yourself if similar situations have played out in the last several elections, and particularly the current election. It is long, but well worth the space on my blog and definitely worth a small chunk of your time to learn the truth about the CFR and the impact they have already had on American society, politics, and especially the economy.

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and The New World Order
- By William Blase

For those who may be confused by the controversies surrounding the "New World Order", a One-World-Government, and American concern over giving the UN more power; those unaware of the issues involved; and those wishing more background, I offer the following.

Originally presented for an Honors Class, "Dilemmas of War and Peace," at New Mexico State University, the paper was ridiculed and characterized by Dr. Yosef Lapid, (an acknowledged and locally quoted "expert" on Terrorism and Middle Eastern affairs) as "paranoid... possibly a symptom of mental illness." You may judge for yourself.

Citing source data is the "scientific method," but does not seem to apply to "Conspiracy Theories." A thousand sources may be quoted, yet will not convince the "skeptics," the "realists." It seems to me the "symptoms of mental illness" are on their side, if they refuse to look at evidence ("There are none so blind as those who WILL not see"); or perhaps something more sinister is at work, such as a knowledge of the truth, that does not want YOU to know.

To be paranoid means to believe in delusions of danger and persecution. If the danger is real, and the evidence credible, then it cannot be delusional. To ignore the evidence, and hope that it CANNOT be true, is more an evidence of mental illness.

The issue involves much more than a difference of philosophy, or political viewpoint. Growing up in the midst of the "Cold War," our generation were taught that those who attempted to abolish our national sovereignty and overthrow our Constitutional government were committing acts of treason. Please judge for yourself if the group discussed is guilty of such.

If one group is effectively in control of national governments and multinational corporations; promotes world government through control of media, foundation grants, and education; and controls and guides the issues of the day; then they control most options available. The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and the financial powers behind it, have done all these things, and promote the "New World Order", as they have for over seventy years.

The CFR is the promotional arm of the Ruling Elite in the United States of America. Most influential politicians, academics and media personalities are members, and it uses its influence to infiltrate the New World Order into American life. Its' "experts" write scholarly pieces to be used in decision making, the academics expound on the wisdom of a united world, and the media members disseminate the message.

To understand how the most influential people in America came to be members of an organization working purposefully for the overthrow of the Constitution and American sovereignty, we have to go back at least to the early 1900's, though the story begins much earlier (depending on your viewpoint and beliefs).

That a ruling power elite does indeed control the U.S. government behind the scenes has been attested to by many americans in a position to know. Felix Frankfurter, Justice of the Supreme Court (1939-1962), said: "The real rulers in Washington are invisible and exercise power from behind the scenes." In a letter to an associate dated November 21, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt wrote, "The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government ever since the days of Andrew Jackson." February 23, 1954,

Senator William Jenner warned in a speech: "Outwardly we have a Constitutional government. We have operating within our government and political system, another body representing another form of government, a bureaucratic elite which believes our Constitution is outmoded."

Baron M.A. Rothschild wrote, "Give me control over a nation's currency and I care not who makes its laws."

All that is needed to effectively control a government is to have control over the nation's money: a central bank with a monopoly over the supply of money and credit. This had been done in Western Europe, with the creation of privately owned central banks such as the Bank of England.

Georgetown professor Dr. Carroll Quigley (Bill Clinton's mentor while at Georgetown) wrote about the goals of the investment bankers who control central banks: "... nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole... controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences."

The Bank of the United States (1816-36), an early attempt at an American central bank, was abolished by President Andrew Jackson, who believed that it threatened the nation. He wrote: "The bold effort the present bank had made to control the government, the distress it had wantonly produced...are but premonitions of the fate that awaits the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it."

Thomas Jefferson wrote: "The Central Bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the principles and form of our Constitution...if the American people allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

Does that not describe the situation in America today?

The U.S. managed to do without a central bank until early in this century, when, according to Congressman Charles Lindbergh, Sr., "The Money Trust caused the 1907 panic, and thereby forced Congress to create a National Monetary Commission." Headed by Senator Nelson Aldrich, father-in-law of John D. Rockefeller, Jr., the Commission recommended creation of a central bank.

Though unconstitutional, as only "The Congress shall have Power...To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof..." (Article I, Section 8, U.S. Constitution) the Federal Reserve Act was passed in December 1913; ostensibly to stabilize the economy and prevent further panics, but as Lindberg warned Congress: "This act establishes the most gigantic trust on earth...the invisible government by the money power, proven to exist by the Money Trust investigation, will be legalized." The Great Depression and numerous recessions later, it is obvious the Federal Reserve produces inflation and federal debt whenever it desires, but not stability.

Congressman Louis McFadden, House Committee on Banking and Currency Chairman (1920-31), stated: "When the Federal Reserve Act was passed, the people of these United States did not perceive that a world banking system was being set up here. A super-state controlled by international bankers and industrialists...acting together to enslave the world...Every effort has been made by the Fed to conceal its powers but the truth is--the Fed has usurped the government."

Although called "Federal," the Federal Reserve system is privately owned by member banks, makes its own policies, and is not subject to oversight by Congress or the President. As the overseer and supplier of reserves, the Fed gave banks access to public funds, which enhanced their lending capacity.

Peter Kershaw, in "Economic Solutions" lists the ten major shareholders of the Federal Reserve Bank System as: Rothschild: London and Berlin; Lazard Bros: Paris; Israel Seiff: Italy; Kuhn- Loeb Company: Germany; Warburg: Hamburg and Amsterdam; Lehman Bros: New York; Goldman and Sachs: New York; Rockefeller: New York. (That most, if not all of these families just happen to be Jewish, you may judge the significance of yourself). The balance of stock is owned by major commercial member banks.

According to Devvy Kidd, "Why A Bankrupt America?" The Federal Reserve pays the Bureau of Engraving & Printing approximately $23 for each 1,000 notes printed. 10,000 $100 notes (one million dollars) would thus cost the Federal Reserve $230. They then secure a pledge of collateral equal to the face value from the U.S. government. The collateral is our land, labor, and assets... collected by their agents, the IRS. By authorizing the Fed to regulate and create money (and thus inflation), Congress gave private banks power to create profits at will.

As Lindberg put it: "The new law will create inflation whenever the trusts want inflation...they can unload the stocks on the people at high prices during the excitement and then bring on a panic and buy them back at low prices...the day of reckoning is only a few years removed." That day came in 1929, with the Stock Market crash and Great Depression.

One of the most important powers given to the Fed was the right to buy and sell government securities, and provide loans to member banks so they might also purchase them. This provided another built-in mechanism for profit to the banks, if government debt was increased. All that was needed was a method to pay off the debt. This was accomplished through the passage of the income tax in 1913.

A national income tax was declared unconstitutional in 1895 by the Supreme Court, so a constitutional amendment was proposed in Congress by none other than ...Senator Nelson Aldrich. As presented to the American people it seemed reasonable enough: income tax on only one percent of income under $20,000, with the assurance that it would never increase.

Since it was graduated, the tax would "soak the rich", ...but the rich had other plans, already devising a method of protecting wealth. As described by Gary Allen in his 1976 book "The Rockefeller File," "By the time the (16th) Amendment had been approved by the states, the Rockefeller Foundation was in full operation...about the same time that Judge Kenesaw Landis was ordering the breakup of the Standard Oil monopoly...John D...not only avoided taxes by creating four great tax-exempt foundations; he used them as repositories for his 'divested' interests...made his assets non-taxable so that they might be passed down through generations without...estate and gift taxes...Each year the Rockefellers can dump up to half their incomes into their pet foundations and deduct the "donations" from their income tax."

Exchanging ownership for control of wealth, foundations are also a handy means for promoting interests that benefit the wealthy. Millions of foundation dollars have been "donated" to causes such as promoting the use of drugs, while degrading preventive medicine. Since many drugs are made from coal tar derivatives, both oil companies and drug manufacturing concerns (many Rockefeller owned or controlled) are the main beneficiaries.

With the means to loan enormous sums to the government (the Federal Reserve), a method to repay the debt (income tax), and an escape from taxation for the wealthy, (foundations), all that remained was an excuse to borrow money. By some happy "coincidence," in 1914 World War I began, and after American participation national debt rose from $1 billion to $25 billion.

Woodrow Wilson was elected President in 1913, beating incumbent William Howard Taft, who had vowed to veto legislation establishing a central bank. To divide the Republican vote and elect the relatively unknown Wilson, J.P. Morgan and Co. poured money into the candidacy of Teddy Roosevelt and his Progressive Party.

According to an eyewitness, Wilson was brought to Democratic Party headquarters in 1912 by Bernard Baruch, a wealthy banker. He received an "indoctrination course" from those he met, and in return agreed, if elected: to support the projected Federal Reserve and the income tax, and "listen" to advice in case of war in Europe and on the composition of his cabinet.

Wilson's top advisor during his two terms was a man named Colonel Edward M. House. House's biographer, Charles Seymour, called him the "unseen guardian angel" of the Federal Reserve Act, helping to guide it through Congress. Another biographer wrote that House believed: "...the Constitution, product of eighteenth-century minds...was thoroughly outdated; that the country would be better off if the Constitution could be scrapped and rewritten..." House wrote a book entitled "Philip Dru: Administrator," published anonymously in 1912. The hero, Philip Dru, rules America and introduces radical changes, such as a graduated income tax, a central bank, and a "league of nations."

World War I produced both a large national debt, and huge profits for those who had backed Wilson. Baruch was appointed head of the War Industries Board, where he exercised dictatorial power over the national economy. He and the Rockefellers were reported to have earned over $200 million during the war. Wilson backer Cleveland Dodge sold munitions to the allies, while J.P. Morgan loaned them hundreds of millions, with the protection of U.S. entry into the war.

While profit was certainly a motive, the war was also useful to justify the notion of world government. William Hoar reveals in "Architects of Conspiracy" that during the 1950s, government investigators examining the records of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a long- time promoter of globalism, found that several years before the outbreak of World War I, the Carnegie trustees were planning to involve the U.S. in a general war, to set the stage for world government.

The main obstacle was that Americans did not want any involvement in European wars. Some kind of incident, such as the explosion of the battleship Main, which provoked the Spanish - American war, would have to be provided as provocation. This occurred when the Lusitania, carrying 128 Americans on board, was sunk by a German submarine, and anti-German sentiment was aroused. When war was declared, U.S. propaganda portrayed all Germans as Huns and fanged serpents, and all Americans opposing the war as traitors.

What was not revealed at the time, however, was that the Lusitania was transporting war munitions to England, making it a legitimate target for the Germans. Even so, they had taken out large ads in the New York papers, asking that Americans not take passage on the ship.

The evidence seems to point to a deliberate plan to have the ship sunk by the Germans. Colin Simpson, author of "The Lusitania," wrote that Winston Churchill, head of the British Admiralty during the war, had ordered a report to predict the political impact if a passenger ship carrying Americans was sunk. German naval codes had been broken by the British, who knew approximately where all U-boats near the British Isles were located.

According to Simpson, Commander Joseph Kenworthy, of British Naval Intelligence, stated: "The Lusitania was deliberately sent at considerably reduced speed into an area where a U-boat was known to be waiting...escorts withdrawn." Thus, even though Wilson had been reelected in 1916 with the slogan "He kept us out of war," America soon found itself fighting a European war. Actually, Colonel House had already negotiated a secret agreement with England, committing the U.S. to the conflict. It seems the American public had little say in the matter.

With the end of the war and the Versailles Treaty, which required severe war reparations from Germany, the way was paved for a leader in Germany such as Hitler. Wilson brought to the Paris Peace Conference his famous "fourteen points," with point fourteen being a proposal for a "general association of nations," which was to be the first step towards the goal of One World Government-the League of Nations.

Wilson's official biographer, Ray Stannard Baker, revealed that the League was not Wilson's idea. "...not a single idea--in the Covenant of the League was original with the President." Colonel House was the author of the Covenant, and Wilson had merely rewritten it to conform to his own phraseology.

The League of Nations was established, but it, and the plan for world government eventually failed because the U.S. Senate would not ratify the Versailles Treaty.

Pat Robertson, in "The New World Order," states that Colonel House, along with other internationalists, realized that America would not join any scheme for world government without a change in public opinion.

After a series of meetings, it was decided that an "Institute of International Affairs", with two branches, in the United States and England, would be formed.

The British branch became known as the Royal Institute of International Affairs, with leadership provided by members of the Round Table. Begun in the late 1800's by Cecil Rhodes, the Round Table aimed to federate the English speaking peoples of the world, and bring it under their rule.

The Council on Foreign Relations was incorporated as the American branch in New York on July 29, 1921. Founding members included Colonel House, and "...such potentates of international banking as J.P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, Paul Warburg, Otto Kahn, and Jacob Schiff...the same clique which had engineered the establishment of the Federal Reserve System," according to Gary Allen in the October 1972 issue of "AMERICAN OPINION."

The founding president of the CFR was John W. Davis, J.P. Morgan's personal attorney, while the vice-president was Paul Cravath, also representing the Morgan interests. Professor Carroll Quigley characterized the CFR as "...a front group for J.P. Morgan and Company in association with the very small American Round Table Group." Over time Morgan influence was lost to the Rockefellers, who found that one world government fit their philosophy of business well. As John D. Rockefeller, Sr. had said: "Competition is a sin," and global monopoly fit their needs as they grew internationally.

Antony Sutton, a research fellow for the Hoover Institution for War, Revolution, and Peace at Stanford University, wrote of this philosophy: "While monopoly control of industries was once the objective of J.P. Morgan and J.D. Rockefeller, by the late nineteenth century the inner sanctums of Wall Street understood the most efficient way to gain an unchallenged monopoly was to 'go political' and make society go to work for the monopolists-- under the name of the public good and the public interest."

Frederick C. Howe revealed the strategy of using government in a 1906 book, "Confessions of a Monopolist": "These are the rules of big business...Get a monopoly; let society work for you; and remember that the best of all business is politics..."

As corporations went international, national monopolies could no longer protect their interests. What was needed was a one world system of government controlled from behind the scenes. This had been the plan since the time of Colonel House, and to implement it, it was necessary to weaken the U.S. politically and economically.

During the 1920's, America enjoyed a decade of prosperity, fueled by the easy availability of credit. Between 1923 and 1929 the Federal Reserve expanded the money supply by sixty-two percent. When the stock market crashed, many small investors were ruined, but not "insiders." In March of 1929 Paul Warburg issued a tip the Crash was coming, and the largest investors got out of the market, according to Allen and Abraham in "None Dare Call it Conspiracy."

With their fortunes intact, they were able to buy companies for a fraction of their worth. Shares that had sold for a dollar might now cost a nickel, and the buying power, and wealth, of the rich increased enormously.

Louis McFadden, Chairman of the House Banking Committee declared: "It was not accidental. It was a carefully contrived occurrence...The international bankers sought to bring about a condition of despair here so that they might emerge as rulers of us all."

Curtis Dall, son-in-law of FDR and a syndicate manager for Lehman Brothers, an investment firm, was on the N.Y. Stock Exchange floor the day of the crash. In "FDR: My Exploited Father-In-Law," he states: "...it was the calculated 'shearing' of the public by the World-Money powers triggered by the planned sudden shortage of call money in the New York Market."

The Crash paved the way for the man Wall Street had groomed for the presidency, FDR. Portrayed as a "man of the little people", the reality was that Roosevelt's family had been involved in New York banking since the eighteenth century.

Frederic Delano, FDR's uncle, served on the original Federal Reserve Board. FDR attended Groton and Harvard, and in the 1920's worked on Wall Street, sitting on the board of directors of eleven different corporations.

Dall wrote of his father-in-law: "...Most of his thoughts, his political 'ammunition,'...were carefully manufactured for him in advance by the CFR-One World Money group. Brilliantly... he exploded that prepared 'ammunition' in the middle of an unsuspecting target, the American people--and thus paid off and retained his internationalist political support."

Taking America off the gold standard in 1934, FDR opened the way to unrestrained money supply expansion, decades of inflation--and credit revenues for banks. Raising gold prices from $20 an ounce to $35, FDR and Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau, Jr. (son of a founding CFR member), gave international bankers huge profits.

FDR's most remembered program, the New Deal, could only be financed through heavy borrowing. In effect, those who had caused the Depression loaned America the money to recover from it. Then, through the National Recovery Administration, proposed by Bernard Baruch in 1930, they were put in charge of regulating the economy. FDR appointed Baruch disciple Hugh Johnson to run the NRA, assisted by CFR member Gerard Swope. With broad powers to regulate wages, prices, and working conditions, it was, as Herbert Hoover wrote in his memoirs: "...pure fascism;...merely a remaking of Mussolini's 'corporate state'..." The Supreme Court eventually ruled the NRA unconstitutional.

During the FDR years, the Council on Foreign Relations captured the political life of the U.S. Besides Treasury Secretary Morgenthau, other CFR members included Secretary of State Edward Stettinus, War Secretary Henry Stimson, and Assistant Secretary of State Sumner Welles.

Since 1934 almost every United States Secretary of State has been a CFR member; and ALL Secretaries of War or Defense, from Henry L. Stimson through Richard Cheney.

The CIA has been under CFR control almost continuously since its creation, starting with Allen Dulles, founding member of the CFR and brother of Secretary of State under President Eisenhower, John Foster Dulles. Allen Dulles had been at the Paris Peace Conference, joined the CFR in 1926, and later became its president.

John Foster Dulles had been one of Woodrow Wilson's young proteges at the Paris Peace Conference. A founding member of the CFR...he was an in-law of the Rockefellers, Chairman of the Board of the Rockefeller Foundation, and Board Chairman of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

In 1940 FDR defeated internationalist Wendell Willkie, who wrote a book entitled "One World," and later became a CFR member. Congressman Usher Burdick protested at the time on the floor of the House that Willkie was being financed by J.P. Morgan and the New York utility bankers. Polls showed few Republicans favored him, yet the media portrayed him as THE Republican candidate.

Since that time nearly ALL presidential candidates have been CFR members. President Truman, who was not a member, was advised by a group of "wise men," all six of whom were CFR members, according to Gary Allen. In 1952 and 1956, CFR Adlai Stevenson challenged CFR Eisenhower.

In 1960, CFR Kennedy (who was probably killed because he had the courage NOT to go along with all their plans) CFR Nixon. In 1964 the GOP stunned the Establishment by nominating its candidate over Nelson Rockefeller.

Rockefeller and the CFR wing proceeded to picture Barry Goldwater as a dangerous radical. In 1968 CFR Nixon ran against CFR Humphrey. The 1972 "contest" featured CFR Nixon vs. CFR McGovern.

CFR candidates for president include George McGovern, Walter Mondale, Edmund Muskie, John Anderson, and Lloyd Bentsen. In 1976 we had Jimmy Carter, who is a member of the Trilateral Commission, created by David Rockefeller and CFR member Zbigniew Brzezinski with the goal of economic linkage between Japan, Europe, and the United States, and: "...managing the world economy...a smooth and peaceful evolution of the global system." We have also had (though his name strangely disappears from the membership list in 1979) CFR director (1977-79) George Bush, and last but not least, CFR member Bill Clinton.

They have all promoted the "New World Order," controlled by the United Nations. The problem is that "...the present United Nations organization is actually the creation of the CFR and is housed on land in Manhattan donated to it by the family of current CFR chairman David Rockefeller," as Pat Robertson describes it.

The original concept for the UN was the outcome of the Informal Agenda Group, formed in 1943 by Secretary of State Cordell Hull. All except Hull were CFR members, and Isaiah Bowman, a founding member of the CFR, originated the idea.

The American delegation to the San Francisco meeting that drafted the charter of the United Nations in 1949 included CFR members Nelson Rockefeller, John Foster Dulles, John McCloy, and CFR members who were communist agents--Harry Dexter White, Owen Lattimore, and the Secretary-General of the conference, Alger Hiss. In all, the Council sent forty-seven of its members in the United States delegation, effectively controlling the outcome.

Since that time the CFR and its friends in the mass media (largely controlled by CFR members such as Katherine Graham of the "Washington Post" and Henry Luce of" Time, Life"), foundations, and political groups have lobbied consistently to grant the United Nations more authority and power. Bush and the Gulf War were but one of the latest calls for a "New World Order."

Admiral Chester Ward, a member of the CFR for over a decade, became one of its harshest critics, revealing its inner workings in a 1975 book, "Kissinger ON THE COUCH." In it he states "The most powerful cliques in these elitist groups have one objective in common: they want to bring about the surrender of the sovereignty and national independence of the United States."

Most members are one-world-government ideologists whose long- term goals were officially summed up in September 1961 State Department Document 7277, adopted by the Nixon Administration: "...elimination of all armed forces and armaments except those needed to maintain internal order within states and to furnish the United Nations with peace forces...by the time it (UN global government) would be so strong no nation could challenge it."

Within the CFR there exists a "much smaller group but more powerful...made up of Wall Street international bankers and their key agents. Primarily, they want the world banking monopoly from whatever power ends up in control of the global government ...This CFR faction is headed by the Rockefeller brothers," according to Ward.

What must be remembered is that this is not some lunatic- fringe group...these are members of one of the most powerful private organizations in the world: the people who determine and control American economic, social, political, and military policy. Members' influence and control extends to "leaders in academia, public service, business, and the media," according to the CFR 1993 "Annual Report."

Their founding they describe as: "American Participants in the Paris Peace Conference decided that it was time for more private Americans to become familiar with the increasing responsibilities and obligations of the United States...there was a need for an organization able to provide for the continuous study of U.S. foreign police for the BENEFIT OF ITS MEMBERS (emphasis mine) and a wider audience of interested Americans."

They sponsor hundreds of programs, where members "exchange views with American and foreign officials and policy experts... discuss foreign policy issues...consider international issues of concern to the business community" (Corporate business), and "...affiliated groups of community leaders throughout the United states...meet with decision makers."

The CFR states that it is "host to many views, advocate of none," and it "has no affiliation with the U.S. government." No, no affiliation at all, if you don't count: "A Council member was elected president of the United States...Dozens of other Council colleagues were called to serve in cabinet and sub-cabinet positions," as they describe it in "Foreign Affairs," along with many members of Congress, the Supreme Court, the Joint Chiefs, the Federal Reserve, and many other Federal bureaucrats.

They are not AFFILIATED with government, they ARE the government, in effect.

One re-occurring view was stated in the 50th anniversary issue of "Foreign Affairs," the official publication of the CFR. In an article by Kingman Brewster, Jr. entitled "Reflections on Our National Purpose." Our purpose should be, according to him, to do away with our nationality, to "take some risks in order to invite others to pool their sovereignty with ours..."

These "risks" include disarming to the point where we would be helpless against the "peace-keeping" forces of a global UN government. We should happily surrender our sovereignty to the world government in the interests of the "world community."

Today we have the spectacle of Spc. 4 Michael New, a U.S. soldier in Germany who refuses to wear the uniform of the UN, facing an "administrative discharge." He states rightly that he swore an oath to defend the U.S. Constitution, not the United Nations. Many other Americans have taken that same oath, such as myself, and believe it is our sworn duty still to defend the Constitution, since an oath sworn before God must be fulfilled. (Why else do we swear to tell the truth in our courts, or when taking public office?) Is it a crime these days to actually BELIEVE in God and the oath that was taken?

Meanwhile, others who attempt to destroy the Constitution and our sovereignty are given honors and position...At least they are not hypocrites...only supremely arrogant.

"In short, the 'house of world order' will have to be built from the bottom up rather than from the top down...An end run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece by piece, will accomplish much more than the old fashioned assault..." in the opinion of Richard N. Gardner, former deputy assistant Secretary of State in "Foreign Affairs," April 1974.

James Warburg, son of CFR founder Paul Warburg, and a member of FDR's "brain trust," testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on February 17, 1950, "We shall have world government whether or not you like it--by conquest or consent."

Is this an AMERICAN speaking, or a dangerous lunatic? Who is this "We" who threatens to CONQUER us?

They are a group that actually has the power to do it, and is doing it every day, bit by bit.

CFR Members in the mass media, education, and entertainment push their propaganda of "humanism" and world brotherhood. We should all live in peace under a world government, and forget about such selfish things as nationalities and patriotism. We can solve our own problems. We don't need God, or morals, or values: it's all relative, anyway, right?...Because if we actually had some moral character and values, we might be able to discern that these people are actually EVIL.

The Bible says that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil (1 Tim. 6:10). These people are evil because they love money and power, and greed drives them to do anything to achieve their goals. They have lost all morality and conscience, and believe such concepts, as well as our Constitution, "outdated".

THAT is insanity--to have more wealth than can be spent, and still it is never enough. They have to control governments, start wars, conspire to rule the world; least the "common people" wake up to how they have gained their wealth, take it away from them, and demand that they pay the price for their crimes.

That is why they constantly pit us one against the other, with "Diversity," Affirmative Action, and other programs,...black against white, men against women, rural against urban, ranchers against environmentalists, and on and on...least we look in their direction.

We The People are held to a much higher standard. If we threaten the President or a public official, we are charged with a crime...yet the One-World-Gang can threaten the Constitution and the liberties of We The People, the sovereign rulers of this nation, and nothing is said or done.

Perhaps they do not fear what Man can do to them... they believe they have arranged everything, and their power and wealth will prevail in this world. However, those among them who have sworn an oath before God to uphold and defend the Constitution: the President, members of Congress, and the military; may find one day that they do indeed have something to fear.

List of CFR Members

Colonel House, the fallen angel, still has relatives controlling the CFR. Karen Elliot House is Chairman of the Membership Committee, and a member of the Nominating Committee, along with Jeane Kirkpatrick. David Rockefeller is now "Honorary Chairman of the Board", after serving as Chairman 1970-1985; and "Director Emeritus," after serving as a Director 1949-1985. Peter G. Peterson is Chairman, Admiral B. R. Inman is Vice Chairman, while Thomas Foley and Jeane Kirkpatrick are Directors serving on the Executive Committee.

These "private citizens" have access to government officials and policy makers as often as they wish, yet the results of their meetings can only be given to other government officials, corporate officers, or law partners. Participants are forbidden to transmit an attributed statement to any public medium, such as newspapers or TV, where there is "risk that it will promptly be widely circulated or published," as the "Annual Report" puts it.

Should not OUR public officials be forbidden to meet in secret with private groups? Public officials should only be allowed to discuss public business and policy in a public forum. The Public...remember US?

There is much more to say about this group and their plans for America. Gary Allen, in "The Rockefeller File," states that they are behind the many regional government plans, which would abolish city, county, and state lines, leaving us at the mercy of federal bureaucrats; and behind the push for "land use" controls. They want "federal control of everything. Since they intend to control the federal government..."

There are also the many allegations of involvement in gun running, drug smuggling, prostitution and sex slaves; and the many mysterious assassinations and "suicides" of witnesses and others who get too close to the truth...but that is another story.

Don't Take My Word for It

If there is one thing I've learned during the last few months of talking to people about our disappearing freedoms in general and about Ron Paul in particular, is that each individual must search for and learn the truth in their own way and on their own timetable. In my posts and in my conversations with family and friends, I can only hope to give others something to mull over in their minds until they eventually start to try to find out the answers for themselves.

It is a difficult task to make such a paradigm shift in one's political thinking. I have been known to argue passionately for the case of the Bush Administration prior to being awakened to reality. Friends and family find it hard to believe that I no longer support Bush and the Neocons, but it is true! It did not, however, happen over night and no, I didn’t drink the Kool-Aid. Over more than a decade, seeds were planted in my mind, so that when I finally started to look outside of mainstream media for answers to my questions, I began to put the pieces of the puzzle together. I can not expect anything less of others. I don't think we have another decade to sit idly by, though, and it is for this reason that I sometimes get a little overly insistent that people come around more quickly.

This is not familiar territory to me. I'm used to being able to win friendly debates because I use facts to back up my arguments. In this matter, though, most people are not swayed by the facts. It is a testament to just how far America has veered off course -- most Americans can no longer imagine what our Republic was supposed to look like, had it developed according to our founding documents. Americans today tend to believe that big government is a necessary evil and that, in order to maintain it, high taxes and oppressive regulations are to be expected. Government meddling in countless affairs for which it has no constitutional authority has become so commonplace that Americans now believe they could not function without federal regulations on everything from education to farming and federal assistance to an ever-growing list of groups including the sick and the needy - not only here in America - but around the globe.

Please, look into these things and learn everything possible in the shortest amount of time! If you find there is no factual basis for any cause for concern, then you can be satisfied and can let things continue along their present course. If, however, you begin to have more and more light bulbs going off as I did, please keep learning and find out how you can get actively involved in whatever way you can. Educating ourselves and others is the only way we can win back our freedom, peace, and prosperity. This is the purpose of my blog in a nutshell.

What steps can you take, specifically? You can start by finding out about things like the SPP, NAU, the Amero, TTC, REAL ID, FEMA Camps, the Federal Reserve, the CFR, and why martial law was used in New Orleans and Greensburg, KS. Just Google them. Look up legislation as you find it referenced in articles, and read the actual legislation. Many documents have been recently declassified and you can read them for yourself as well. Read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Once you get started, you will likely find that your problem becomes where to stop researching and (hopefully) how to start acting!

Taking Back the GOP from the Bottom Up

The neocons who have hijacked the GOP are hereby on notice. We WILL take back our party and return it to fiscal conservatism and a respect for the rule of law! They are squatters in OUR house, and we will not tolerate their war mongering, outrageous spending, empire building, and lack of regard for the US Constitution any longer! We're sick over what they have done to the Republican Party and our great nation, and we will stand together to save both and the principles on which they were built.

Precinct by precinct; county by county; state by state... We are a force to be reckoned with and our numbers are growing daily. Unfortunately, some in our movement are loud and obnoxious, but most of us are educated, well-reasoned, well-spoken patriots who refuse to sit by and watch our country slip away from us.

Listen to this guy - a Ron Paul supporter speaking at a GOP convention in Tarrant County, Texas. He is speaking in favor of a RP nominee for the position of Permanent Chairman of the Convention. In many parts of the red state of Texas, this tactic was successful and led to the running of the entire convention by a group of true conservatives. Go Texas!

The Constitutionalist Republicans are Here to Stay!

Here is a great article from the Austin American Statesman. It describes the success of the Ron Paul supporters at the SD25 convention last Saturday. All indications are the constitutionalists are here to stay - look out 2010!

Horatio Bunce: A Hero's Hero

WHO? You're probably asking yourself, "Who in the world is Horatio Bunce?" He was a simple farmer with a keen political sense who once helped his Congressman to see that our federal government was not authorized by the Constitution to redistribute the wealth of citizens - even for a good cause. His representative was none other than Davy Crockett of Alamo fame.

Everyone loves a good Davy Crockett story, right? This one has nothing to do with his heroic efforts to defend the Alamo, but it is an extraordinary tale nonetheless. "It's Not Yours to Give" is the title of an excerpted story, originally published in "The Life of Colonel Crockett" by Edward Sylvester Ellis. Its lesson is timeless. It is a favorite of Dr. Ron Paul's, and he routinely carries copies with him to hand out, especially to the many children he meets.

CLICK HERE to read the entire story.

For those who worry about the poor and whether our government is doing enough to help them, I hope this story helps you to understand why they should be doing nothing at all. We, as compassionate individuals and communities, have the freedom to help others as we see fit.

The government exists to protect the individual's freedoms, including the freedom to spend one's money however they please. It does not exist to redistribute wealth for any reason - not even to help those who are disadvantaged in any way. The restrictions on government spending were put in place to ensure the longevity of the Republic. The Founders knew that, once people figured out they could vote themselves a windfall, only those politicians who promised to give them more and more would ever be elected to office, eventually bankrupting the nation. Sound familiar? Entitlement programs of every ilk, pork barrel projects galore, programs to spend billions helping the poor - not only those residing in our own country, but around the globe...

My First GOP County Convention Experience

NOTE: This was written and first published as a comment on the Daily Dose (official blog of the Ron Paul 2008 Campaign and its originally intended audience was fellow Ron Paul supporters who were blogging away sharing our stories about our county / senate district conventions on March 29, 2008).

First, let me say, there were so many Ron Paul vehicles in the parking lot, it looked like a RP rally, and the Revolution is alive and well in WillCo! We did not have quite the numbers we needed to have a majority (about 43%), but we did well nonetheless because of the willingness of the majority of long-time party faithfuls to welcome all the new faces. For those outside of Texas, it is interesting to note that Williamson County has the reputation of being the reddest county in the red state of Texas.

I requested an appointment to the Temporary Resolutions Committee shortly after being elected as a delegate at my precinct convention, and we had representation on a couple of the other committees, too. Our County Chairman makes these appointments, and he granted my request even though he knew I was a “Paulista”, which I took as a very positive sign. Our committee met for a total of twelve hours in the few days before the convention to weed through more than 800 resolutions that had been sent up from the precinct conventions. With 84 precincts seated at the county convention, that’s an average of nearly 10 per precinct! The vast majority of these were either RP resolutions or items in line with his platform. Way to go grassroots! As a committee member, I was able to introduce my own resolutions, and I took advantage of that. I got one passed about withholding party funds from any candidate who does not fully support the entire platform plank on illegal immigration. I also got a sentence added to the ‘Preserving National Security’ plank that says, “We do not support the enactment of the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 (HB 1955).”

Serving on this committee was very rewarding, both for me personally and for helping to bring the Republican Party back to its conservative roots. The debates were exhilerating, honest discussions on an incredibly wide array of issues, and I was proud to passionately state our case on each and every one of them. It feels so good to speak about things like gun control, illegal immigration, and the unconsitutionality of all the various government agencies when you know you’ve got the constitution on your side. It is extremely difficult to argue with the truth! I did not win every debate, and not all of the RP resolutions made it out of our committee. Only a few got through that I voted against, and even those aren’t very far off the mark.

To see our committee’s report containing all of the resolutions we passed up to the convention for consideration, you can go to www.williamsoncountygop.org to find a link to the report along with a link to the 2006 (current) Republican Party of Texas Platform. This would be a great resource for those of you who have yet to attend your next highest convention! UPDATE: As of April 4th, 2008, the links to the resolutions and the Texas GOP platform are no longer on the Williamson County GOP website.
Today, I was appointed to the Permanent Resolutions Committee. I had my doubts as to whether or not I’d be included on the list, and joked about it with them when we convened. But everyone from the County Chair to our Committee Chair and many members of the committee told me that they were impressed with my knowledge and willingness to roll up my sleeves and had not even considered removing me from the committee. We took testimony on new resolutions for about an hour this morning, and then made some adjustments before sending our final report to the printer. After lunch, the fun really started!

After some lively debate over two resolutions, (which were not passed in committee, but three of us signed as a minority report), we failed to get them added to the majority report. They were on unbinding Texas’ delegates to the national convention and on repealing the 17th amendment. After that, a motion was made to approve the entire report as is. If this had failed we would have taken each of the 24 resolutions and debated each one before voting. As a member of the committee who had already debated these issues at length, I was generally satisfied with the final report. The RP group spokespeople said they were 99% happy with the resolutions, but wanted the opportunity to debate the issues. I completely understood their wanting to do this and was very mixed on what I wanted to happen next.

A vote was called for and, as had been the case throughout the day, each side LOUDLY voiced their ‘Yays’ and ‘Nays’. We were so close to being evenly divided, that nearly every vote was taken again by way of standing or in some cases there was even a poll of the precincts. The vote to accept the resolutions report as is went all the way to the polling stage. This meant that the Precinct Chair for each delegation had to step up to the microphone and announce their precincts’ vote count for and against. After the statistical calculations were made based on the voting strength of each precinct, the ‘Yays’ had won, and the entire report was passed. This disappointed many Ron Paulers who were prepared to stay into the wee hours if that is what it took to have a chance to voice an opinion on each and every resolution. I would have gladly stayed to once again state the case for all of the really good resolutions we had. However, I believe that only a handful of the resolutions would have failed on their own (because we did a very thorough job at the committee level), and that we could have risked losing some very positive resolutions for our cause.

One resolution came from the floor, and it was regarding making candidates tow the party line and follow the constitution. I actually spoke against this one because it is already in our platform and we (the committee) had already passed a resolution adopting the current platform with modifications as contained in the remainder of the resolutions. It would have been redundant, in my opinion and as was the consensus of the committee since we had already failed to pass many resolutions on those grounds. Yet, by that time, most of the ‘old-timers’ had gone home and the RP group approved it. I guess it doesn’t hurt to reiterate something so critical, but to me the real question is ‘How do we make them uphold what’s already in there?’ I’m glad we won the vote anyway because we ended the day with a victory, however small it might have been.

After this a motion was made to adjourn. It was seconded & passed with no debate (motion to adjourn is apparently not debatable). This effectively cut off any further motions from the floor. In this regard, we were shut out, but in the meantime we had managed to accomplish much!

I was elected as a delegate to our state convention, and my husband made the alternate list. In all, I think we got just shy of 20 delegates out of 120, and a few alternates as well. We tried to get a 10 minute recess to look over the list, but after nearly 10 minutes spent debating the motion, it was rejected. The slate, as proposed by the nominations committee, was approved in its entirety.

The County Chairman approched me at one point during the day and asked me if I was under 40. I said yes, and he asked if I would be interested in starting a local chapter of the Texas Young Republican Federation, whose members must be between 18 and 40, inclusive. I said that it was definitely something I’d be interested in learning more about and I found the Regional Director of the group later in the day & we exchanged contact info, etc. I think this is a perfect way for me to get involved in our local GOP and have a positive affect on the young people at the same time. I want to be involved, but I don’t necessarily want to attend luncheons five times a month either. I believe we need to educate the young conservative base - they’re so ready for this message of true conservatism and an adherence to the US Constitution! Along with representing Williamson County as a delegate to the state convention, this is how I plan to continue my little piece of the revolution!
